$2 Billion in Government Grants for Advanced Battery Manufacturing...

Don’t Miss the Technical Briefing:

Assembling a North American Lithium Ion Supply Chain

Join key stakeholders of the advanced battery value chain as they connect and share:

  • Their activities and role in enabling manufacturing of advanced mobile energy storage in North America
  • The key legislative, economic, financial, technical and organizational challenges they face in successfully developing the North American manufacturing capacity
  • The types of partnership and relationship they are looking for to successfully transform the North American electric infrastructure

About the Conference

What good is it to wean the U.S. off its dependence on foreign oil, if we become dependent on foreign batteries?

Advanced batteries are critical for next generation mobility and the emerging Smart Grid—transforming the way vehicles are powered and enabling a truly clean energy future. However, the vast majority of advanced batteries being used in North America are produced in Asia. The battery manufacturing challenge has both enormous economic and national security implications. Senior government officials and policy experts are putting forth the call: the advanced battery manufacturing gap must be closed, and quickly. The future competitive position of the US economy may be at stake.

Excitement is high among the general public, policy-makers, existing and new auto suppliers, battery technology developers, utilities, and venture investors. A number of State governments are exploring major initiatives to facilitate advanced manufacturing, with the Canadian national and provincial governments looking into major aid packages as well. On top of the $25 billion re-tooling loans for auto makers and supply chain vendors from the Department of Energy (DOE), the latest economic stimulus bill adds $2 billion in loan guarantees for advanced battery manufacturing and $200 million to encourage electric vehicle technologies. In addition, the stimulus bill includes $11 billion investment for Smart Grid, along with funds allocated for R&D.

The Advanced Battery Manufacturing conference will bring together the key stakeholders who together have the authority, know-how, I.P., tools and funding to jumpstart a new wave of battery factories and associated knowledge clusters in the U.S. and Canada. Traditional lead-acid /carbon manufacturers will talk about their successes and challenges in meeting the battery needs of the plug-in and hybrid vehicles of tomorrow. Newer lithium ion and ultracapacitor entrants will discuss their manufacturing, investment and supply-chain needs. The shape of federal and state financial assistance will be assessed, and the global energy storage and PHEV market surveyed.

The Advanced Battery Manufacturing conference provides the ideal setting to network and build the partnerships required for the emergence of a successful domestic advanced battery industry and electric mobility infrastructure.
