A new era of automotive energy storage is dawning. The federal government has stepped in to catalyze a revolution in advanced batteries for hybrid, plug-in hybrid and plug-in electric vehicles. The $2.4 billion Stimulus “downpayment” to 48 organizations has gone out, the “Cash for Clunkers” program helped jumpstart consumer demand, yet the supply chain networks that will support a domestic electric auto industry have barely begun to take shape.
For mass manufacturing of plug-in electric/hybrids in the U.S. to work, all of the players in the advanced battery supply chain—auto-makers (personal and fleet/ industrial) and other end users, tool suppliers, commodity sources, component vendors, battery companies, universities, incubators and R&D labs—need to meet, match up needs and resources and develop relationships. By bringing together all parties, the nascent industry can start to knock down the high materials cost of advanced batteries (approximately 80% of total cost) and grow the overall market.
To meet this urgent need for partnering among all players, Infocast is organizing Advanced Battery Value Chain, following on the heels of the sold-out Advanced Battery Manufacturing event in Washington DC. Advanced Battery Value Chain will assess the state of the supply chain, strategic gaps and challenges, as well as the overall markets for advanced batteries. Participating companies will discover new business opportunities, learn their role in the value chain, have a chance to showcase their products and services and learn the needs of prospective partners. Be sure not to miss this major opportunity for technology partnering in the emerging PHEV and stationary energy storage markets.
