Energy Policy 2010 - What to Expect
Energy Policy 2010 - What to Expect
Friday, January 15, 2010:
1:00pm - 2:30pm EST
Many significant issues remain in play in Washington that will affect the US energy market.
Will Congress take steps to control carbon emissions? Will it enact a cap-and-trade bill? Will the Environmental Protection Agency move forward on its own to regulate emissions?
Will Congress extend the stimulus program of Treasury cash grants for renewable energy projects? Will it make changes in the loan guarantee program that the Department of Energy administers, perhaps by extending the September 2011 deadline to start construction or by moving the program to a new "clean energy bank"? Will it extend a 30% tax credit for new factories that manufacture products for the green economy?
Will there be a national renewable energy standard and, if so, with what targets and how will it overlap with the renewable portfolio standards at the state level?
Will Congress give the executive branch greater power to push through needed transmission projects?
Will Congress be forced by the expensive health reforms and burgeoning government deficits to adopt a national value-added tax? Will it make it harder for US companies to defer US taxes on the earnings from projects in other countries?
Will the financial reforms require energy companies to run swaps and hedges through exchanges and central clearinghouses?
The panel will focus largely on the power sector. Hear what heads of Washington offices of major companies and lobbyists for the trade associations are telling headquarters about what to expect in the next year. The panel will be a true roundtable discussion. It will be interactive: the audience will have a chance to ask questions.
