About the Conference
Offshore wind development is picking up speed in the U.S.: the first offshore wind project PPA has been signed, several other large developments have been proposed, new permitting rules are being used for the first time, and the iconic Cape Wind project is nearing its final permitting. The fundamentals for offshore wind projects also seem sound at first glance, as the availability and consistency of wind resources offshore should enable these projects to achieve higher capacity factors, while avoiding much of the cost of developing large-scale transmission projects to bring power to coastal population centers which are frequently load pockets. However, local opposition and a confusing regulatory structure have delayed offshore wind projects in the past, and the technical and logistical risks may complicate financing. Where are the real opportunities for developing offshore wind, and how can the development hurdles be surmounted?
Infocast’s Offshore Wind Development Conference will provide an up to date picture of the North American offshore wind market. It will identify key opportunities for development, as well as explore the technical risks associated with offshore wind, including lessons learned from European developments. It will provide guidance on the new permitting rules under development, and how the rules of the road will affect development in various regions. Finally, it will discuss how to overcome the transmission interconnection and financing challenges on the horizon.
