About the Summit
The theme of this year’s Transmission Summit is “Regulatory Challenges and Strategic Opportunities for the Next Phase of Transmission Development.” This year’s Summit will discuss both the opportunities and challenges being presented as many transmission industry owners and operators move projects from the drawing board through construction.
Transmission Summit 2009 will follow the highly successful format of years past, with two distinct events featured on the three-day program:
The Transmission Executive Forum:
The Next Phase in Transmission Policy and Regulation
March 11, 2009
Recent studies have indicated that enormous investment in transmission infrastructure will be needed to support changes to energy and climate change policies that are anticipated to begin unfolding early in 2009. How will regulatory initiatives be crafted to support this coming wave of new development?
Transmission Summit 2009:
The Next Phase in the Great Build-Out
March 12-13, 2009
Many transmission projects are moving from the drawing board and permitting process to full-scale development, which is bringing its own challenges. Opportunities abound to develop projects to move electricity vast distances to meet reliability and market needs, and to support a future generation mix incorporating a high percentage of renewable energy— if permitting, financial and construction schedule and cost hurdles can be overcome.
In the Transmission Summit, the industry’s key leaders will provide a detailed explanation of how they are working to surmount the hurdles of planning and developing large-scale projects to serve energy markets that may look very different than those of the past. They will discuss how they are responding to emerging challenges in financing and approval of multi-jurisdictional projects, integrating smart grid technologies, planning construction, and meeting the demands of large scale renewable energy.
