The threat of a significant influenza pandemic looms. In late 2005, President Bush outlined his $7B plan to prepare for a pandemic. The money is now being released to industry. On March 4, 2006, the Department of Health and Human Services awarded over $1B in contracts to five biopharmaceutical companies to drive new flu vaccine technologies. As a consequence, expectations for the country's pandemic preparedness are rising rapidly. However, delivering on pandemic influenza preparedness will require many additional steps, and the path forward is not yet clear.

End-to-End Preparedness for Pandemic Influenza: Opportunities for Public-Private Collaboration will bring together senior government officials and top industry executives to explore how an effective partnership between government and industry can be developed to tackle the next critical steps in delivering on public health preparedness for pandemic influenza. From development to production to supply to administration, these key leaders will examine each step in preparedness to identify the opportunities for strengthening government and industry collaboration and to address the underlying capabilities that must be in place to ensure success.


The event also includes the pre-conference Symposium, Supply Chain Readiness for Pandemic Influenza Response, where speakers representing the three major components of the pandemic response supply chain-production, supply, and administration-will focus on the integration and coordination of key components in the supply chain, highlight any gaps that may exist, and explore strategies for addressing those gaps.
