BEGINNING THE BIG TRANSMISSION BUILD OUT
|
Now in its ninth year, the annual Transmission Summit has established itself as the premier gathering for the transmission industry. At this year's Summit, senior transmission executives will gather and address the strategic, regulatory, investment, and technology issues facing the industry and explore strategies for maximizing the true value of their business.
The theme of this year's Transmission Summit is "Beginning the Big Transmission Build Out." This year's Summit will explore the emerging new landscape for getting transmission projects sited and financed, and bring clarity to some of the regulatory, financial, operational and technical uncertainties facing transmission owners and operators.
Transmission Summit 2007 will follow the highly successful format of years past, with two distinct events featured on the three-day program:
TRANSMISSION EXECUTIVE FORUM
Transmission Project Development in the Post-EPAct 2005 Era
March 7, 2007
|
Some of the key provisions of the EPAct of 2005 were aimed at increasing investment in new transmission projects, and easing the difficult process of attaining siting approvals. Nearly a year and a half later, DOE is preparing to release its NIETC designations, and FERC is finalizing a rule making to introduce a backstop siting and approval process, among other initiatives aimed at increasing investment in the nation's transmission infrastructure. In response an unprecedented number of new projects have been announced, new vehicles for transmission investment are emerging, and independent transmission activities have been reinvigorated. Which alternative strategies will enable transmission businesses to develop much-needed new capacity? How will the need to incorporate wind and other renewable power generation assets affect the coming build out? At the Transmission Executive Forum, leading executives and investors will explore this new environment, the impact it will have on encouraging new transmission investment, and the strategic options being considered to get new transmission assets built.
TRANSMISSION SUMMIT 2007
Innovate Approaches for a New Era in Transmission
March 8-9, 2007
|
Almost every aspect of the transmission business is seeing signs of innovation, with new approaches being visible in areas from planning to finances to operations to technology. At Transmission Summit 2007, the industry's key leaders will provide a detailed explanation of how they are responding to these shifts in today's transmission environment. Our panelists will provide a detailed examination of each of the critical new developments facing the industry:
- Will the emergence of new incentive pricing in RTO/ISO markets work?
- The transparency issue in transmission markets-what is the viability and advisability of the various methods suggested in recent rulings?
- Who will pay for new transmission?
- How should the transition period to mandatory reliability regulation be managed?
- How will regional planning uncertainties be resolved?
- Can the effective lifespan of aging transmission infrastructure be extended through asset management?
- What new technologies are ready for commercial application, and how will they enable the future of the grid?
