Calyxo GmbH is a highly automated manufacturer of thin-film solar panels based in Thalheim, Germany with a capacity to be increased to 100MWp in 2018. Originally founded in the USA in 2003 as Solar Fields, LLC, Calxyo expanded to Germany with its first solar production facility in 2006. Calyxo GmbH has received investments of over €240m to develop its revolutionary, proprietary, Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) based thin-film manufacturing technology. The Company currently holds over 80 international patents and applications. Calyxo’s high performance, high quality, flexibly designed modules are used in a multiplicity of solar installations (e.g. ground based, rooftop, building or façade integrated etc.) and are particularly well suited for difficult and harsh environments. CdTe is a stable, nontoxic material and Calyxo’s products are among the ‘greenest’ solar panels in the world in terms of CO 2 emissions created from the production process and the recyclability of its materials. The company is currently implementing a comprehensive process improvement program and is on track to become the lowest cost manufacturer of solar panels in the world.
